In a case that recently scandalized the Karnataka High Court, a woman filed a cruelty complaint against her husband, saying he cared more about their cat than her.

An Indian woman was reprimanded by Bangalore judges for filing a frivolous cruelty complaint against her husband, in which she mainly complained that the man paid more attention to their cat than to her. Justice M. Nagaprasanna observed that no specific allegation of cruelty or harassment was made in the complaint. Instead, the plaintiff focused on the fact that her husband cared for their feline more than her, claiming that every time she confronted him about his behavior, they ended up arguing and arguing. throwing insults. Apparently, the wife also complained that the cat attacked and scratched her several times and the husband did nothing.

“The complaint is a narrative of the marriage and living together, but the gist of the allegation is based on the quarrel over a pet cat that is in the husband’s house,” Justice Nagaprasanna said. “The allegation is that the husband takes more care of the cat than the wife.”

“Every time the wife points this out, there is a dispute between the two and abuse is thrown,” the judge added while hearing the strange motion last week. “This is what is recounted in most paragraphs of the complaint. Therefore, the issue is not about demand for dowry, nor assault on demand of dowry, nor cruelty inflicted by the husband. The problem is the pet cat and the cat repeatedly attacking or scratching the woman.

After hearing this unusual petition, the court eventually stopped any further investigation against the husband and reprimanded the wife for her frivolous complaint, adding that it was these kinds of petitions that were clogging up the Indian justice system.

“It is such frivolous cases that have congested the criminal justice system today, and if investigation were allowed in the case in question, it would add yet another case to an already congested justice system,” the Court said.
